Revival means to reawaken or restore. Revive means to return to consciousness or life - to become active or flourishing again. In essence, when something is revived it is brought back to an active and lively state. The church in the United States is hungry for revival. An awakening of the saints of God. An empowering of the remnant of Christ's army. Those that have held on through the famine and dryness of the desert being restored to a fiery state. The saints of God need to be emboldened to take the gospel to the sinner. The ambassadors of Christ need to rise up and reach out with an invitation to the lost. We long for sinners to repent and come to Christ. We carry a burden for the backslidden, the prodigals.
How does revival come? It is through walking in truth. There is a cycle that happened throughout scripture and the history of the church. In this cycle, the children of God would turn away from God, embrace other gods and lifestyles, and find themselves in captivity. Then, they would cry out to God for deliverance and revival. Truth has repeatedly been the key to revival. When the children of God are willing to acknowledge where they have been failing to follow God and His commands, and then adopt them back into their lives, they receive mercy from God. God desires to see us walking in truth.
If we, as God's children, would humble ourselves and pray, our Father will hear us. We ought to be seeking for God's Spirit now more than ever. We ought to be ready for a restoring of the gifts of the Spirit in the church. How we desperately need God's Spirit to set us on fire and draw in the hungry souls for His glory!
A parable comes to mind repeatedly. It is when an invite is given out for a marriage supper. When the time for the feast comes, many are too busy to respond. They do not see the benefits or the importance. The Lord demands the servant to go invite others. Finally, the servant is told to go to the highways and hedges and "compel" people to come. That word compel also means constrain or necessitate. The importance of eternity is at hand, but what will "compel" people to come to the Lord? It's not by might, nor power, but by God's Spirit that people will be drawn to the Lord.
